How effective are hand wipes against coronavirus?

As the Wuhan Coronavirus continues to spread, we discuss what precautions you can take to help prevent exposure to and transmission of the virus.

At Pearmine Health, we’re experts in infection control and prevention, so we know how important it is for individuals to do what they can to reduce the human-to-human spread of coronavirus. As infection rates are still increasing, we wanted to outline the best things you can do to keep yourself and others protected.

Although there is no specific cure or vaccine for coronavirus, there are ways to reduce its transmission. Experts believe coronavirus can be airborne, but may also live on surfaces and equipment for a matter of days. The best way to therefore halt its spread is good hand hygiene.

Diligent hand hygiene

Regular and thorough hand hygiene is critical – and is one of the simplest ways you can reduce exposure to the virus. The World Health Organisation advises people to frequently wash their hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or warm water and soap and cover their mouth and nose with a flexed elbow or tissue when sneezing or coughing. It’s also sensible to avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever or cough.

While warm water and soap is a simple and efficient method of killing coronavirus, antibacterial hand wipes are also an effective way to not only eradicate 99.99% of Coronavirus and bacteria, but also protect surfaces and equipment from which the virus can transfer.

Especially in places where it is not practical to use water, or water is not readily accessible, hand wipes can offer a simple and safe alternative, without the need to rinse. Our Dymacare Antibacterial Hand Wipes offer a hassle-free skin cleanse with absolutely no water required.

Antibacterial products with coronavirus protection

While warm water and antibacterial handwashes are the perfect defence against Coronavirus, it’s worth ensuring that any waterless products you use such as hand gels and wipes are proven to work against Coronavirus.

Our no-rinse wipes are proven to kill >99.99% of bacteria and viruses, including coronavirus. The dermatologically-tested formula is pH balanced, so is gentle to skin but tough on bacteria and viruses.

What’s more, these wipes are perfect for travel and when you’re on-the-go with 10 ultra-thick large wipes in a pack. They can also be used for the face and body, as well as surfaces, and are microwaveable for comfort.

We recommend ensuring any products you buy to help protect against coronavirus are tested against the European Standard BS EN 14476 for viruses and coronavirus, as well as EN 132727 for bacteria.
